There is not much content out there for anyone interested in visiting Uganda. You might be wondering what to expect or what to do in preparation if you ever want to come to the horn of Africa. Well, let’s jump right to it then;
- Tour Guide.
Going to a new country/region can be challenging. However much some of you might want to explore and adventure on your own; tour guides provide a sense of security and confidence for any hurdles you might meet on the way. In Uganda we have over 140 travel and tour companies for you to choose from, all very professional and mostly personally owned and thus give you their utmost attention and effort in ensuring your vacation is worthwhile. They are well equipped with information on the best hotels and lodging, best sites and shortest routes to destinations. Your trip will be very smooth and easily managed to the last detail. Who does not want that?
- Important travel documents.
This is priority as you already know. By the time you’re reading this, you probably have had a fair share of trips to different areas and Africa as well. Endeavor to have your passport and visa secured in time before your travel date approaches, and keeps them safe and near at all times during your stay. Most lodgings require a quick peek at them when you arrive. You don’t want to have your stay extended in a foreign country because you misplaced them right?
- Appropriate Clothing
Pack according to the activities you have assigned with your tour guide. The weather in Uganda has been found pretty favorable for visitors who are mostly accustomed to low degrees during the winter. Luckily we don’t have that here, just the wet and dry seasons with the lowest temperature being around 17 degrees Celsius and highest 30 degrees courtesy of the equator. More rains are expected in the tropical rain forests ie Bwindi Impenetrable rain forest that shelters that last remaining Mountain Gorillas and home of chimpanzees in Kibale National park among others. Be sure to carry your hiking shoes, warm jackets and rain coats. You’ll find that the rest of the time your normal clothing will do just fine. More of this will be communicated in the briefing at the respective sites.
- Technology
Probably an obvious number on the-to pack list. You would never go without your phone anywhere. I wouldn’t. Electricity in Uganda in the last few years has been extended to further places and solar as well. You will not at any one moment stay in a place without power. Unlike other countries, there are no incidents of Tourists being attacked or robbed; be assured of safety and security of your gadgets. You gotta insta that good elephant selfie right? - Money
Yes, you already paid the tour guide to ensure everything is covered. Transportation, lodging, food and any payments required for game viewing. But that’s not all. There is still a lot you could pick an interest in. Your guide will assist you convert to Ug shillings right before you set off so you don’t miss anything like buying souvenirs and the like. Having a little change always comes in handy.
- Food/Snacks
I know that looked like I’m encouraging you to carry them but I’m not. First of all, Uganda’s economy is doing great; you can access everything to snack on the road from literally every store in every town big or small. Our cuisines are versatile and fully enriched. I was surprised, we don’t have that many vegetarians in Uganda but every lodge and hotel provides for this option, so if you are Vegetarian, worry not; we got you covered.
